RIGHT TURN FROM A MINOR
ROAD
Change
to the rightmost lane well before the turn:
Switch on the right turn signal.
Look: in the centre mirror – in the
right side mirror – over the right shoulder out the side window (blind spot)
for cars approaching from behind in the target lane.
When clear:
Look ahead. Change to the rightmost
lane.
If yet far from the turn, switch off the turn signal.
You
must turn right from the rightmost lane, unless another lane has right turn
arrow road marking; it is against ARR to turn right from any other lane (r.
31, r.32).
The
rest of this paragraph outlines invariables of the procedure for changing
lanes, explained in the CHANGING LANES section.

Switch
on the right turn signal 3 seconds or 1 light pole span before the turn.
Since
you will be slowing down at the turn, you should give the driver following
you sufficient warning.
An average span between street lights approximately equals stopping distance of an average car at an average speed, which, in turn, equals 3 seconds, and most drivers consider signalling a turn for 3 seconds a sufficient warning to others. 3 seconds equal 5 ticks of the turn indicator.
Generally,
you should switch on the turn signal before you start slowing down.
Slow
down approaching the turn.
You
must slow down in sufficient time before the turn, first, to negotiate the
corner confidently, and second, you car will remain more stable when braking
is done in a straight line before the turn, rather than in the turn; remember that
firm braking combined with sharp steering almost always causes skidding.
Check
for a bus or long truck in a left-hand lane, indicating right turn (long
vehicles may turn right even from the leftmost lane), and if there is one:
stop in your lane at the rear end
of the long vehicle, and wait until it completes the turn.
Certain long vehicles display “Do
Not Overtake Turning Vehicle” sign, practically meaning: “Do not pass me from
the side where I am turning”. For example, you can pass a long vehicle
turning right along its left side, but in a lane right to this vehicle you
must stop and wait until it completes the turn.
