CAR CONTROLS - Steering technique

Steering technique

First of all, recognize position of the steering wheel at which your front wheels are straight.

Left hand fairly lightly grips outside of the wheel at 9-10 o’clock, and the right hand – at 2-3 o’clock; thumbs are along the rim.

Keep hands on the wheel at all times, even when waiting on the red traffic light.

In a straight line, left hand holds the wheel at 9-10 o’clock, the right hand at 2-3 o’clock, and you maintain a steady course by steering without shuffling hands around on the wheel, just to compensate the road camber.

This position provides for the best control over steering, enabling you to take immediate evasive action as needed; hands are within quick reach of the main car controls and horn.
