DRIVING STRAIGHT AHEAD THROUGH AN INTERSECTION ON A MINOR ROAD

Give way to pedestrians and vehicles crossing from the right (including those turning right) and from the left (including those turning left or right). In a 60 km/h zone you will need a gap of at least three seconds (i.e. about 50 meters or 1 light pole span) between your car and vehicles approaching from the right, and four seconds from the left (i.e. about 70 meters or 1.5 light pole span).

From a stationary position it takes at least three seconds to cross a typical intersection. You should give way to a vehicle that is closer than time needed for you to complete the manoeuvre plus for this vehicle to stop if something goes wrong and you obstruct the road.
