DRIVING STRAIGHT AHEAD
THROUGH AN INTERSECTION ON A MINOR ROAD
At
the “Give Way” sign or line slow down, stopping within 1 metre of the line
only if there are pedestrians or vehicles on the crossing road
Approaching
a “Give Way” sign or line, you must slow down.
“Give Way” sign or line practically means to slow down and be prepared to stop if you may
present obstruction to others.
You
must stop in 2 cases:
1. there is a traffic jam
in your lane across the intersection; and
2. there is a vehicle, bike
or pedestrian on the crossing road at or approaching the intersection (see
more in the Give way step below).
Provided
there is no traffic jam, and no one in the vicinity on the crossing road, you
should not stop; moreover if you stop when you could go you risk to fail the
driving test.
If
you have to stop, stop as soon as the line has disappeared under the hood,
and remain stationary until the way is clear (do not creep).

intersection on a minor road – “Give Way” sign and line
Note
the specific shape of the sign: a triangle with one point down.
Road
marking is a dashed white line across the road.
On
the terminating road of a T-intersection slow down stopping at the road
junction only if there are pedestrians or vehicles on the crossing road.
If
there is no hold line, you stop as near as practicable to, but before
entering, the intersection.
Check
for a bus or long truck in an adjacent lane that is signalling turn in the direction of your lane, and if there is one:
stop in your lane at the rear end
of the long vehicle, and wait until it completes the turn.
Certain long vehicles display “Do
Not Overtake Turning Vehicle” sign, practically meaning: “Do not pass me from
the side where I am turning”. For example, you can pass a long vehicle
turning left along its right side, but in a lane left to this vehicle you
must stop and wait until it completes the turn.
If
traffic in your lane across the intersection is jammed, wait at the road
junction not entering the intersection until there is room across for your
car.
ARR
prohibit entering a blocked intersection (r.128), and you are not to block
even minor roads (r.170 (1)).
