DRIVING STRAIGHT AHEAD THROUGH AN INTERSECTION ON A MINOR ROAD

Explication

At the “Stop” sign or line stop completely as soon as the line disappears under the hood (i.e. within 1 meter), and wait for 3 seconds even if there is no one.

You must stop even if there is no traffic on the crossing road.

Note the unique octagon shape of the “Stop” sign.

Road marking is a solid white line across half of the road.

For driving straight ahead approach the “Stop” line with the right side of your car just left of the middle of the road. Your stopped position must be within one metre before the line. You comply with this by braking smoothly while approaching the line, and stopping completely as soon as the line disappears under the hood of your car.

Where “Stop” sign is not accompanied by a “Stop” line or crosswalk, you should stop at the road junction, i.e. before entering the travelled portion of the through road.

Remember to ease the pressure off the brake pedal just before the vehicle comes to rest to avoid a jerk, otherwise you risk to fail the driving test because testing officers consider jerks as insufficient control of the car.

3 second stay at the “Stop” line is what the testing officer expects to see, and about the time needed for thorough check before crossing the road (definite waiting time is not provisioned in ARR).
