A speed camera monitoring your lane is usually located on the opposite side of the road.

Do not get obsessive with speed checking, since keeping an eye on the speedometer draws your attention off the road, and threatens driving safety.

It is generally understood that speedometers are not always accurate, and in the most states and territories speed cameras have 10% allowance, e.g. in NSW a speed camera in a 60 km/h zone is set to 67 km/h. Mind though, that a policeman with a mobile speed camera (radar) may be less tolerant.

It is illegal to have a radar detector or suppressor in your car, let alone to use it (ARR r.225).
