Stopping
is prohibited on such roads, and there is nothing preventing you from driving in
the leftmost lane. For driving straight you should use the 1st
lane unless it is congested with traffic, then use the 2nd lane,
etc, but leave the rightmost lane for overtaking. ARR require this for all roads with speed limit over 80 km/h, whether a freeway
or not (r.130); in Western Australia - over 90 km/h (Ref.#14 section 3.4.2,
p.52).
Take
2nd lane if you see ahead vehicles queued waiting to enter the
freeway.
