Highway with speed limit up to 80 km/h

(in Western Australia up to 90 km/h)

2-lane highway

To drive straight:

if the visible road ahead is clear of parked cars, use the 1^st lane; otherwise use the 2^nd lane.

If the 1^st lane is free of parked cars (e.g. it has a kerb-side yellow line), the 2^nd lane should be left for overtaking, and moreover, on a highway the 1^st lane is safer to drive in. However, when there are cars parked in the 1^st (leftmost) lane, it is safer to drive in the 2^nd lane rather than constantly change lanes.
