MOVING FROM THE KERB

Fasten your seat belt. Make sure all passengers have fastened their seat belts.

Slowly pull the belt out, taking care not to twist it, and insert its tab into the buckle.

If pulled too fast, the seat belt tightens and won’t go out – in this case let it retract, and pull out slowly again.

For the driver, seat belt is not only a safety requirement, but also provides additional information about the car dynamics, speed and braking.

Feet off pedals.

Do not touch pedals when starting the automatic car engine.

Some car Owner’s Manuals and the “Learner Driver Log Book” advise you to hold the brake pedal depressed while starting the engine, but this is not necessary (thanks to the applied hand brake and transmission on Park), and the driving test officer does not expect you to do it.

Start the engine.

How? - see CAR CONTROLS section - Starting the car engine.
