BAY PARKING FRONT TO THE KERB

---

BAY PARKING FRONT TO THE KERB

(synonym: Forward/Front-in right angle parking)

Driving elements (procedure)

Approach your bay perpendicular to the parking spaces and at least 2 car-widths out from them (the farther the better).

Note if there is an obstruction close to the end of your bay (a pole, tree, water column, bin etc).

Turning point

Brake to almost full stop when you see the side mirror is at the near line of your bay.

Turn the steering wheel fully to the bay.

Crawl forward until you enter your bay.

Continue crawling and straightening wheels, aligning the car parallel to the lines of the bay, not more than 30 cm out of parallel with the lines.

Stop close to the kerb, taking care not to hit an obstruction that may be at the end of the bay, within 40 cm from the end of the bay (30 cm in Australian Capital Territory and South Australia).

Apply the hand brake.

Shift transmission to Park.

Foot off pedals.

Switch off the engine.
